People with rare bleeding disorders may present to the hospital with bleeding that can be life or limb threatening if they do not receive proper clinical management in a timely manner. Hospital-based clinical pathways are important in providing proper clinical management and achieving optimal patient outcomes. During this presentation, we will review example clinical pathways that were developed, in collaboration with experts in hematology, emergency medicine, and clinical pharmacy, for those patients presenting to the hospital with a rare bleeding disorder. To be successful, a pathway must not only have buy-in and support from leadership, but from the frontline staff who will use the pathway at the point of care. A leader in clinical pathway development will also discuss the key stakeholders involved in the development of a clinical pathway and provide best practices for how to implement a clinical pathway for rare bleeding disorders into your institution.
